In this chapter, we learn that the high priestess is trapped in the "confederated god array," which is a kind of trap that the spirit-eating monster uses to lure his master into his trap. The high priestess realizes that the trap is a trap, but she doesn't rush into it, because she's learned a lesson from the last time she tried to enter the trap. This time, however, she'll have to wait until the real spirit-eater's body is in the trap before she can enter it. This is a big deal, because the real creature has been sealed off from the world for two million years, and he can't just rely on the confined array to get him back. He's going to have to eat the two of them, he says, and then he'll be able to return to the universe.
