In this chapter, the narrator introduces the concept of "holy water" , or "coca" . He tells the audience that it is a drink that is said to have an "intangible stimulation" and a "refreshing feeling." The narrator says that only nobles have access to this kind of drink, and that only the rich can afford it. The narrator then tells the story of a mysterious man who has just arrived in the capital and is rumored to be president of the "world chamber of commerce." The king of di tells the narrator that he has never heard of this man, but that he is sure that the man is conspiring against the kingdom. The king says that he will keep the man out of the kingdom, and he has a plan to "eaten this wolf."
