The narrator enters the classroom and introduces himself as "Belle," a student at the Peking Union Medical College. He informs the class that he will be teaching a course on medical theory that day. He asks the students to eat a fried chicken, a hamburger, and a "fatty" piece of bread. The students respond by saying that they want a piece of meat loaf, a butter bread, or a "da-n-fatty piece" . The president of the university interrupts the class to announce that the student's relative has been expelled from the university for "disrespectful" behavior. The university president tells the students that they have already decided to kick the student out of the class. The student, however, refuses to listen to the president's instructions. He tells the professor that he has learned his lesson and will return to class if the professor does not take him back. The professor tells the student that it is class time and that he is not allowed to have tea time. He then tells him that if the student does not return, he will go back to the university president and ask him to remove the student from the class, but the professor tells him not to worry, as he will return in a flash if he does not leave. The teacher asks the student if he knows what is called a "brain neuron," and the student answers that there are "neurons" in the brain and that the word "neuron" is a Latin word meaning "to be." The teacher then asks her questions about the medical theory she has just taught.
