About This Chapter
In the middle of the second set of the girls' match against the boys' team from the elementary school, a young man named Manabu tells his friend, Odagiri, that he hates the fact that the other girls are cheering for him. He says that he used to be friends with the girls from the school, and that they were cruel to one another. He tells Manabu that he feels sorry for the girls, because they are at their best when they don't think about who they are. He also says that the girls need to support Oishi, because she is at her best when she isn't thinking about who she is. The young man says that Oishi keeps glaring at him on the defensive, and he thinks that she is giving him the evil eye. He then tells his friends that he has won the first set, and they are surprised that he lost the second. He explains that he was able to beat the girls because they were fighting over training methods and because he was bullying them. Asuka, Yonebayashi, and Ari were also fighting over the methods of training, so they wanted to play with him on another team. He asks why they didn't move on to the school of seiji, where they could all play together. He adds that he invited Nao instead of another girl, because he thought she would be better than someone else. Manabu says that if he only hates someone because someone else pushed him into it, he's fooling himself.
