The chapter opens with a flashback to the time when the two girls were in the same elementary school class. The two girls are now in different classes, and they run into each other again at a basketball game. The narrator tells us that he wishes he could trade places with his brother, who is the heir to their father's fortune, but his father is too strict with him. He's not willing to give him anything else he's wanted, and he tries to convince himself that it's no big deal. He tries going out with some other girls, but he can't stand the idea of being a proper boyfriend. He asks his sister if she would like to go for a walk with him, and she says that she would, too. He tells her that he likes her a lot, and that she reminds him a lot of her. He kisses her on the eyelid, and then he kisses her again. She says that he kissed her too, but she doesn't know what to say. She tells him that she is going to be the assistant coach for the girls' basketball team.
