About This Chapter
The girls walk to the train station together, and one of them asks the other to walk with her. The other says she's not into it, but she'll take it anyway. The girls talk about how they're trying to start a school-based volleyball team, but they can't get along with the president, who's always hanging out with him at the gym. One of the girls says he used to run the national team at one point, but he got too drunk to play in the Olympics, and now he's addicted to alcohol. He's hurt his mom, she says, and he needs to figure out a way to help her. They're going to try to find the best players in grade school, and then they'll hire them as coaches and managers. Everyone will get along, the girls say, and everyone will be able to coach and manage their own school team. This is a good idea, they say, because it'll keep them out of trouble and out of the way of other people's careers. They also say that they've done a good job raising the girls' talent, but that they should have done a better job of raising her.
