In this chapter, Tachibana tells us that she's married to an osteopathic physician, and that her house doubles as a medical practice. She's also the mother of a boy who's on the national youth volleyball team, and she has a son who is on the same team as her. She tells him that he's an amazing setter, and he needs to show him how to play the game. She also tells him about how she quit the girls' volleyball team when she was in middle school because the other girls weren't taking the game seriously. Thackeray, she tells us, doesn't have any regrets about that. He's got a good eye, he tells her. He also tells her about how his brother sets are getting blocked, even though they aren't particularly fast. He says that his brother has figured out a way to get people in the right place at the right time, and this is why his sets are not getting blocked.
