About This Chapter
It's the morning of a big celebration. Akama and Toda are in the middle of making a sekihan, a traditional rice dish. Toda wants to borrow Toda's friend's cake, but Toda refuses to let her borrow it. She tells him that she saw him and a girl holding hands on the way home from school the other day, and she's shocked that he's holding hands with a girl. She's even more shocked when Toda tells her that they're not really friends, but that they are making a big day out of it. They're going to make the rice, buy a cake, and have a big party. Tomada is all, "hey, I'm making rice for yamada today, and I'll buy you a cake to celebrate." Toda is totally confused. She says that she and the girl are not actually friends, and that she bought the cake just for her, not for the girl. He's totally confused, too, because he doesn't know who the girl is. He says that he has a crush on the girl, but he can't figure out why.
