This scene opens with a soliloquy in which Cai Ming-guojun reveals that he has come to drink with the king of Lan Ling-tianfang. He tells Cai Ming that he is here to "refine pills" in the kingdom of Nanyue. Cai Ming says that he wants Cai Ming to stay in Lan Ling because it is a "suitable place" for him to "refined pills" . He also says that Cai Ming's mother is "unnatural" and that he does not want to be associated with the "irregularities" of the royal family
