The chapter ends with a soliloquy by Nu, in which he tells the reader that he is going to celebrate the birthday of his son tomorrow. He tells the audience that he has come to the conclusion that the cause of the fire in the cloth village was that the two people who set it were Huanqing and Yumen, and that he wants to take revenge on them. Nu tells him that he will be his knife in the future, and will never be merciful to the enemy. He then tells the story of how he found the soul-condensing pill. He explains that it is made from seven cold-cold medicinal herbs, which must be refined in the dark at night. He says that he can use the pill to save his son, but that there is no living thing in the galaxy, so he will need fresh blood.
