The next morning, Shu-ling and his family arrive at the parade ground to thank the emperor for saving their lives during the battle with the Huns. They are grateful for the gifts of silver and gold that the emperor has given them, but Shu says that the gifts are more precious than gold and silver. He tells the emperor that his grandfather has chosen him to be the next emperor, and that he is now a member of the family. He says that it is not necessary for the emperor to give the family hard times, but that they can always return home if they have any difficulties.
