The chapter opens with a soliloquy in which Caixuan tells his new wife that she is welcome to wait for him in his bedroom. He tells her that he does not care if she does not show up for the wedding. He says that he is just trying to get her to marry him. He adds that he would have canceled the wedding if she did not come to him. Caixin then tells his wife that he had planned to go to the banquet and get some favors from the officials. He then goes back to his bedroom and tells Caixin that he has come to say that he wishes her a happy marriage and that he hopes that she will accept his gift.
