In this chapter, Cai tells the story of how he came to be with the emperor. He tells Cai that he had planned to kill the emperor, but the emperor tricked him into meeting him and distracted him. Cai asks why the emperor had betrayed him, and Cai says that he knows the emperor will not hurt him. He then asks why he had sent Cai to the emperor in the first place, when Cai had thought that he was dirty. Cai then asks if the emperor has ever considered how he would feel if he were to be killed by Cai. He asks if he has ever thought that a person can be hurt, and that he can feel sad. Cai tells him that the emperor knew this, and he still couldnt take Cai's hatred for him. The emperor knew that, but he could not take her hatred towards him as the culprit of her suffering
