In this chapter, we learn about the history of the Ming family. In the past, Ming emperors had male consorts, who were loyal to one another and were buried together in the same grave after their respective deaths. Ming and his consort were known as "a happy couple" because they spent their entire life together. Ming's grandfather tells him that he and Ling will be the leaders of the family, and that their bloodline will last generations after generations. He tells Ming not to rush into the marriage, but to take his time and think it over. Ming is surprised that his grandfather would ask him so soon, but he says that he has a man who he wants to marry and to spend his life with. He asks if he will accept Ming for the family. Ming replies that he does not hate him, but that he is kind to him and handsome. Ming comes back two hours later, and Ming notices that he looks unhappy when he returns.
