In this chapter, we learn that Milady's health has taken a turn for the worse. She's been getting sick from fear and palpitation, and Milady is worried that she's going to lose her job. Milady tries to calm her down, but she can't bring herself to do so. She tells Milady that it's Milady who's responsible for her husband's death, and she asks Milady to come see her, but Milady doesn't want to go, because she thinks Milady looks more like a ghost than a human being. She says she'll have to move out of the mansion when Milady gets pregnant, because Milady will no longer be able to work there. She also says Milady has to blame for saving the vampire, because he's the one who killed Milady, and he'll be out of a job if Milady gives birth to a child. Miyalam, Milady says, is a woman, not a man, so Milady shouldn't have saved the vampire. She wants to know why Milady didn't try to make Milady pregnant when she could have had a child of her own.
