In this short scene, the Governess tells the audience that she has been assigned by the Infidelati to find a failed object in the laboratory. The Governess wonders if anyone in the village has seen the child, and she wonders if the child is a ghost. She wonders if there are any children in the town, and wonders why anyone would want to leave the village at this hour of the night. She decides to look for an empty house so that she can forget about it. She notices that the house is empty, and that the moon is on a cold night, which makes her wonder if the ghost is coming for her. She realizes that the song the child wrote for her is actually the song that the ghost wrote for him. She is not done yet, however, and asks the audience if they forgive her.
