The next morning, the group returns to the laboratory to find that the chimera has been killed. The group blames the scientist, but the professor blames none of them. He says that they'll have to make a better chimera the next time around. The young man who gave the gift to the professor is none other than Macallan, the wine merchant. The professor says that he should have killed the young man, but he's too drunk to do so. He goes into the control room of the laboratory and accidentally enters the radiation chamber. He's about to die.
