This chapter opens with a soliloquy in which Cai Ling tells Ren that he does not have time to pursue his love affair with Gui Gui. He says that he will leave Gui Gui Gui's body to Ren and bury it in the ground. Cai Ling is shocked at this news and says that Ren must be crazy to want to give Gui his soul. He then goes on to say that he cannot believe that Ren wants to sacrifice his soul to Ren. He also says that Cai Ling has come out of her body and is no longer "warm" and that Ren is "crazy"
