This chapter opens with a soliloquy by Cai Ming-liang, who is in the middle of picking flowers from the secret garden. He is very happy to have found the flowers, and he is very grateful to Cai Ming for picking them. He asks Cai Ming to leave him alone, and Cai tells him that he is not allowed to be close to any men within the short period of time that they have agreed to be together. He also tells Cai Ming that he will not be able to get close to anyone else, and that he must obey all the rules of the garden.
