This chapter's epigraph is from the opening lines of the novel, "The Prince of Ghouls" . In this chapter, the prince of ghouls tries to cast a spell on the protagonist, but the protagonist does not believe him. He tells the prince that he has decided not to go back to the world of the ghoul, but to stay with the protagonist in the "human" world. The protagonist is not his real wife, he says, and he does not deserve the prince's love.
