About This Chapter
The narrator is running errands when he sees Hiroshi and his sister, Hetty, and decides to drop by to pick up some food. He tells them that he borrowed some food from the pool the day before, but Hiroshi isn't home, so he's going to give it to his family. Hiroshi tells the narrator that it's too hot for him to go outside in the heat, but he'll take it easy on himself for a day. Hetty and Hetty tease the narrator about his sunburns, which are worse than vampires' because they don't have to sweat as much. The narrator says that he likes playing around in the hot sun, and then he starts to cry. He's worried about his sister and his mom, and he asks Hiroshi to open the bag of food that Hiroshi brought with him. He says that his sister thinks the food is great, because she can lie around and no one will get mad at her. He then asks if his mom has learned to tell the twins apart, and Hiroshi says that they are twins, and that Hetty is the one who is good at studying. He asks if he likes to study, and she says that it is better to be able to do it than not, but she doesn't say that he must become capable of doing it. She tells him that she'll stay up all night to cook dinner for him and his family
