This chapter's epigraph comes from a line in the play's opening scene, in which the narrator describes a desire to "suck blood" and a desire "to bite" . He asks the audience to imagine a society in which "the desire for blood" came from a "combo nation" , and the desire for "sucking blood" was "scared" by the bite of an "heari arm." The bite of the arm, he says, "screams" and "claps." The narrator then asks the students to guess which kind of arm they have the best chance of biting. The first answer is a chicken nugget, followed by waffles, ice cream, and gum. The second answer is an ice cream "chewy ice cream," the third a gum "worthy gum," and the fourth a "hump chicken nugget." The students clap wildly in response to each of the bites. The narrator wonders if the bites are metaphors for blood sucking, or if they are just metaphors for the "power of arousal." He wonders if sato-sensei would be attracted to a "surgeubus," or a "food-suscepter," as he calls her.
