About This Chapter
The narrator returns to the story of Van deursen, a character in a popular comic book about a robin hood, a vampire. The narrator tells us that his father was a fan of the book when he was a young man, and that his family has a copy of the comic book. He says that one of his classmates wanted to read the book, but that he doesn't like comics at school because they're "lowbrow." The narrator says that he's trying to find comics that are "very interest-ing" because he loves them so much. He tells us about the comic about a "snow woman" who moves to the city of Tokyo and falls in love with a man. The men in the comic are making a live-action movie about the woman, and she's going to marry the man she falls for in the movie. He's worried that his classmates will tease him about the story, but he says that's because it's a "work of fiction" . He explains that he once was teased by a group of tough guys at school, and the leader of the group tried to get him to talk to the girl, but the girl was too scared to go anywhere near him.
