About This Chapter
In this chapter, the protagonist tells the story of his first encounter with the patient, who was a young boy and accompanied by his father. The protagonist tells us that the patient's father and son have not come back for fifteen years, and that the protagonist has become a "authority on the industry" . When the protagonist sees the patient again, he is surprised to see that the old patient is healthy and cheerful. He asks the doctor if he is sure that the doctor is famous, and the doctor tells him that he is. He tells the protagonist that he will not see the patient for a few months, but that he has a stubborn patient with some psychological disorders, including paranoia, control freak, self devotion, and "mildly violent tendencies." The protagonist says that he tried his best to "turn the tide" , but the patient is stubborn and refuses to talk to him, so he tells the doctor to have a sit with him and wait for him. The doctor agrees to wait, and asks the protagonist if he used to be an actor. He says that while acting, you have to pay special attention to the "camera, the light, the position, the lighting, the voice, and so on." He then asks if the protagonist thinks that being an actor is "the more believable dissembling," and the protagonist replies that he thinks that it is "outstanding the actor." He also says that when he and the patient broke up for three and a half months, he misses his wife very much.
