About This Chapter
The story opens with a description of the test that was conducted on the witches of Prencia. The test revealed that they were all "honor" or "pure" blooded witches, and they were summoned to meet the "first akticle" . The other witches were summoned as well, and their memories were "wiped" as well. This is the first time that the test has been conducted on a pure blooded witch in fifty years, and the narrator can't figure out what's going on. He wonders if it's the "devil and instructor" who was there, and he wonders if she's really an "akticle." The narrator says that he's never seen a letter like this before, and that if he didn't know what it was about, he'd never even know what the letter was about. He's also worried that she'll be the first anticle in a half-century. The narrator asks the other witches if they'd like to see the "grand wizard" , but they refuse, saying that they're too busy with the test to pay attention to it. They'll just have to wait until the next time the test is conducted, and then they'll have to do it again. This time, the narrator doesn't think he can go to the king's palace to see him. He fumbles around trying to figure out how to get out of the room.
