In this short scene, Sonya explains to her father that she is a pure blood witch and that she does not want to be a part of the "blasphemy against the throne" that is going on in the palace. She tells him that she has landed in "quite a strange world" and asks him not to "overstep" her rank. He tells her that he is sorry, but that he has "landed in quite a weird world" . Sonya asks him if he has forgotten all that is required of him, and he tells her he has. He says that he will die if he does not take the test, or else he will be disrespected by the king. He asks her if she is thinking bad thoughts, and she tells him she is just "nervous" because she is going to the palace the next day. She asks him how he will get there, and when he says he will have to go through the basement, she says it is cold, and there is no device for him to use. He feels like he is being pulled down by a "swish" , and so he stays in the room.
