"My carnivorous young boyfriend" is the title of this chapter, which opens with a soliloquy by a young man who has just returned from a trip to the mountains. The narrator asks the young man if he has anything to tell him about his love life. The young man tells the narrator that he and his friend, Haruki, used to be good friends, but that their friendship fell apart when Haruki went off on his own. Haruki invited Haruki to come and join him on the mountain, and Haruki was happy to do so. He says that Haruki is the one who has taught him to feel happy, and he hopes that they can stay together like that. The next day, Harki moved his seat to the other side of the room, so Haruki and the narrator can be alone together. The two of them talk about how they would like to go out one night and have sex.
