In this chapter, we learn that Tommo has decided to take a leave of absence from his studies in order to attend a Buddhist memorial service for his father's relative, who is away on business. He asks Tommo if he can have his daughter for two days, but Tommo says that he will have to pass a test on the following day to prove that he is worthy of her trust.
