The scene opens in Hiroshige's office, where Hirohige complains that his younger colleague, Toomi, is "too unfriendly" and "unfriendly" to him. He tells Toomi that he will "put it inside" of her if she does not accept their marriage. Toomi tells him that she has been worried about him since he left, and that she is sure that Toomi does not think he is a bother. She tells him to "get full of yourself" and to "smile thank you" for what he has said. She says that she hates what she has said about him, and she wonders if she would ever get a chance with Toomi if she still did not accept the marriage
