In this chapter, we are introduced to Hiroshi, a young sales associate at a large Japanese company. He is very fond of his younger colleague, who is also a sales associate. Hiroshi tells him that he is too unfriendly to his younger co-worker, and that if she does not push him, he will put it inside her. He tells her that she is the worst of all the co-workers he has ever worked with, and he tells her to stop doing such things to him. He then tells her not to involve herself with him anymore, and to stop crying when he is with her, because she is just a child and he cannot keep her company. The next morning, he hears about some "obscene" happening at the company, which he cannot believe is happening at work. He wonders if it is about the two of them, and wonders if they are going to be promoted to the top of the sales ladder. He also wonders if the incident was about the other co- workers, and if it was about them.
