About This Chapter
"No dumping the future" is the title of this chapter's opening soliloquy. It's a quote from a speech given by a city councilor, who says that the city needs to stop "dumping" its future on the people of Japan. The speech is a direct response to the chief's warning that "some of the bodies" were "dumped" at the shrine of ahama. The chief says that they need to find a manufacturer of prosthetics in the artificial islands, and the chief suggests that they look into the "osaki heavy industries" , a company that makes "artificial limbs." The chief tells the chief to "go illegally cover dump" his story. He says that he would've looked into the joints of the statues of the shrine maidens to see if they had "way nicer hard ware" . He also says that most of the prosthetics are "a mix of hasty modifications and straight-up junk" ; the chief is not wrong. He suggests that the chief bury the body parts, but the chief says he'll be out all night. The scene ends with the chief saying that he hasn't seen his step-father since they left the shrine.
