The chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which Tetaguchi explains that he and his brother have been unable to communicate with each other because of a "jamming signal" from the monster. They have been waiting for the signal to arrive so they can kill the monster, but they are unable to do so because the signal is too weak. They are afraid that the signal will come from the bear, and they decide to shoot the bear. Tetauchi tells his brother that he is the only one who has been killed by the monster and that he will have to kill the bear to save his brother. He tells his mother that his brother's victory is near and that his father will see his wishes through. He then tells her that his mother has done terrible things and that she tried to kill him and steal his father's research. He reminds her that she killed his father and tried to have him too and that they need to stop her.
