About This Chapter
In this chapter, the ghost of Udolpho is introduced. He is the Chief aramaki, and he asks the narrator to read a paper that he has arranged for him. The narrator tells him that the chief arranged the paper on account of the lack of a "cyberbrain" . The chief tells the narrator that Osaki is negotiating a partnership with a Chinese company, but the company has a problem: the mining site is in the irradiated waters of the Pacific Ocean, thanks to a former cargo ship that sunk during the war. That's why the company is heading in the wrong direction, the narrator tells the chief. He also tells him about the visit to the "dragon palace" , and the fact that the "triad" decided to pretend that it never existed. He tells the Chief that he just received word that the secrets of "yomotsu" and "kazuyukis research" now rest under a million tons of concrete and water. He thinks that the death of the officiant would have been "a crucial bargaining chip" in any negotiations with the Chinese. The Chief is happy to hear that the party is going well, and that he and his son are having a good time. He says that he went "round with a monster" while he was "lip catching on beauty sleep" and that it's time for him to get a "protist" because he's worried that without one, he'll be unable to keep other people from getting hurt. He asks the Chief if they're up for sale
