This chapter opens with a soliloquy by the "warrior of the flame" , who asks the reader to accept his fallen soul as the "spirit bids you" . This is a reference to a drug called "mamba venom," which is a neurotoxin that degrades the brain and allows the user to "overwrite his primal instincts" and "run whatever code he desires . . the drug allows us to override his own instincts. The "blood of his ancestors" will "stir within . granting him a hunting instinct" and the "reign of madishi" will cease to exist. The monster asks who is sleeping in the tent where the Japanese visitors are sleeping. He wants to know what the matter is. The generals army is there, and he is the one who is out to kill. He asks the monster to tell him the woman he has business with, and the monster tells him that it is the "spit image" of his "darling bride" that he is looking for. He tells the monster that he must have it, and that it will be the last piece of his work he needs. He says that the "poor child is deaf, you monster, going on" and asks why he has done to "akuba." The monster says that fear is a "fierce foe" and that on the battlefield it will rob Tssunagi of his resolve to fight.
