In the meantime, Little Turtle is hiding out in a secret room. He's worried that the bandits might try to kill him and his family once they're cornered. He wants an expert to help him track down the bandits. Little Turtle asks if the bandits are as impressive as they said they were. They aren't, he says. When Little Turtle's mother was killed by the chief, the bandits took her jewelry, threw it into the river, and stole the rest of her belongings. The rest is in the chief's hands, he tells Little Turtle. He says he always dreamed of seeing his mother wear a red dress and marry him, but his mother hated him and never fulfilled his wish.
