In this short scene, we learn that Lin is a student at a small college in Maine. He has been delayed in returning to class because of a minor health issue. Lin's parents are worried about their son's safety at school, but he assures them that he will be fine. He tells his mother that he forgot to bring his backpack with him to class, and that he is happy to be back at school. He asks his mother if she is worried about him, and she assures him that she is not. She tells him that it is his first time going back to school on his own, and it is so far away from home that he may not be able to adjust to college life easily. Lin is happy that he has found a new friend, and he asks if he is free to go to a karaoke party with the other students that night. The other students agree to go, and Lin asks if they are free for the night. He then asks if the student he met earlier in the day is in the class with him. The student nods and says he is. Lin says he has never met him before, and asks if that is because he heard someone in his class had requested a month's leave from school because of an illness. Lin guesses that the student is Lin, and they add each other to the school's chat room. Lin tells his son that he must have lots of friends in his new school, because the student must have a great deal of friends.
