About This Chapter
In this chapter, Lockwood explains that a duel is an invitation for a prisoner to take part in a martial arts fight. The location of the duel is on a rocky field behind the prison, but it is actually a lynching. Lockwood tells Lockwood that his brother will not participate in the duel because men cannot fight against women, and that he came to the prison to avenge his sister's death. If Lockwood agrees to let his brother go, Lockwood will give him all of his manuscripts for the new novel. Lockwood says that he has discovered something after meeting with his brother: he cannot even open the lid of his sword, and he is pretending to be a martial artist. He says that his friend is loyal, but that he does not care if he is a master of the martial arts. Lockwood then explains that he and his brother have known each other since they were young, and they have been together ever since. Lockwood admits that he did not know that he could not attack a woman when he was younger, but now that he knows that he was wrong, he wants to apologize to his sister. He promises to take her to apologize after he beats her up.
