This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter. In this flashback, we learn that the princess, who is now disguised as a man named Lin-Han, has fallen in love with the prince, and she wants to kill herself. The prince, in turn, wants to save the princess from herself. He tells her that she is mistaken in her love for him, and that he will do everything in his power to help her. He also tells her about the time he accidentally saved the prince from drowning in the river, and how he is still unsure of the prince's feelings for him. He asks her to wait for him so that he can bring them together. The princess laughs at the idea that the prince does not care about her, and the prince replies that he is sure she will finish the mission to find the secret treasure and shake off the totem. He then asks the princess why she is so interested in the treasure. She replies that it is because she is a noble among the western Turks, and her secret guard is still unknown
