The next morning, Madame de Guiche wakes up to find a corpse floating in the river. She's pretty sure it's one of her servants, the third young man from the General's mansion who's fallen into the river, and she's really bummed about it. She tells the servant to go ahead and find the body, and then she'll tell the police, since the river's a crime scene, and the duke's probably involved. The servant says he's already told the officer, and that's enough to get him out of the way. He's going to go and find out what's wrong with the body and report it to the police. Madame De Guiche's not worried about the duke, though, because she already knows that the duke has some kind of role to play in this whole thing. She decides to take charge of her mistress's health and beauty, and to make sure that she doesn't fall into a river again.
