In this chapter, we learn that the king of western Turkey wants to choose a wife for his beautiful princess, and he wants to invite some young men from the northern part of the country to participate in the selection process. One of the young men, the prince of Litun, is invited, but he is too old to participate. He tells his father and sister that he plans to get married to the princess of the western part of Turkey, but that he must wait until he can get his career first. He also tells them that if they agree, he will marry the princess's sister, who can support Litun in the north. The prince is excited about the idea of marrying someone older than him, and says that it is a good thing to marry someone who is older than you, as older women bring wealth. He then tells the princess that he is now living under the protection of others, and that if he were to be chosen as her husband, he would stay with her as a guard. He says that he saved her life by staying with her when they arrived in western Turkey, and now that she has saved his life, he can do the same for her. He adds that he has another thing to entrust them all with on the trip to western Turkey: his period has come, and if the grand mistress comes to check him out, he is sure to get pregnant. He pretends to be pregnant by sneaking in when he was sleeping on the floor, and knocks on the door when he is awake. He waits for her to open the door, but she refuses to let him in
