In this chapter, we learn that the third prince wants to marry the princess of the western Turks. He wants to get married immediately, but wishes to wait until the princess returns from the west before making a final decision. He worries that if the prince marries the princess, the prince's forces will grow against him, and he will be powerless to defend himself. He suggests that they wait until after the princess has returned to the west, and then they can decide whether or not to proceed with the marriage. He tells his aunt that he will send secret guards to kill the prince and princess when they return, and that the prince will kill himself because the king does not want his daughter to be with the prince. The aunt tells the story of how her third brother, the kangding duke, was made the prince when he was only 18 years old. The prince was not interested in the throne, so his father brought his mother and the prince back to the palace. The emperor wanted to kill him, but the emperor was struck with a mysterious disease that nearly killed him. Now, the emperor is dying, and the time is right for the prince to take the throne.
