In this chapter, we learn that Carter's father, the late Mr. Lorry, is still alive and well. He is still a member of the "blinding glory corporation" , which is still owned and controlled by his grandfather, who died when Lorry was a child. The chapter ends with Lorry telling his son that he will not be able to attend his son's birthday party this year because of his illness.
