The chapter opens with the vice president of the Student Council, Mingting, and the president, Lingting, arriving at the university. The vice president asks the president to give him the command to do whatever he needs to do for the council. The president tells Mingting that he is welcome to join the council, but he should be careful not to use the council's name as an excuse to gossip about Lingting's past. The two men toast each other, and Mingting says he is not a good drinker, so he is going to toast Mingting as an apology for her bad behavior. Mingting then tells the president that he and Lingting had a heart-to-heart and that Mingting collapsed. The students then discuss how Mingting was unable to find his way home because he was late.
