Before leaving, the young woman asks Miss Jessel to show her the dress she's wearing. The young woman says that she'll be back later that night to make sure that the dress is perfect. She tells the young master that she doesn't want him to fire the apothecary because he didn't "taste good." The young master says, "Don't worry, I'm not going to do that." He tells her to bring him some cloth so that he can bake her a nice dinner. He'll treat her to a nice meal if he can get first prize.
