The chapter opens with a discussion between the two students about the upcoming elections to the student council. The first student, Senior Lu, wants to run for the council, but he doesn't have a great deal of confidence in his abilities. He tells the second student, Mr. Suo, that he's going to Japan to take a vacation and then come back with him to Japan for a few days. He'll be the president of the council for the next two days, and the two of them will come together to elect the new council members. The second student is worried that he won't be able to attend the meeting, but the first student assures him that he will be fine. He also tells the other student that he plans to go to the bathroom before going to the meeting. The two students are interrupted by the arrival of another student, who interrupts them to ask where they are going. The other student tells him that they're going to a meeting in Japan and that he should hurry up and find a place to stay before he leaves.
