In this short scene, the two men discuss the recent events in Lapis. Lapis's invasion of the city of Tulkinghorn, and the subsequent capture of the nobles and their families, has made it impossible for them to remain at the border of the country. The two men agree that it is "intolerable" that their sons have been taken, and that Lapis is trying to use them as leverage against the French. They agree that they must increase surveillance over the country, but they do not know why Lapis has withdrawn from the area. They also confirm that the girl has returned to her senses after being made a "soldier of lapis" for a short period of time. She is back to her former self, and has been cleared of "the brainwashing" that was done to her by the curse. Lucas has been assigned to keep watch on the girl, and he asks for more time.
