About This Chapter
In this chapter, Desdemona explains to Victor how she came to be with him. She tells him that he was the first person who stood up for her when she was a child, and that she was the last person to put him through the trials and tribulations of being a human being. He tells her that he has spent years of his life trying to become stronger, but that if he does not do something about the black mist, he will be done for. He says that the world is a place where "supremacism runs rampant," and that those without power must be persecuted. He reminds Victor that he cannot trust him, and he says that he will not go anywhere with him, since he cannot even know who he is. He adds that he does have a power that he hasnt realized yet, and this power can purge the "miasma," the "elemental of light," which is pulling him down.
