The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Gu, who apologizes for the rudeness of his three naughty disciples. He tells Gu that he has planned to visit them first, but that he is afraid that Gu will not be able to see his master for a while. Gu asks if Gu can check if Gu has been possessed. Gu tells him that Gu is a changed man. Gu says that Gu likes to make jokes, and Gu wonders if he can have private talk with Gu later. Gu apologizes and says that he feels content to see Gu after all. Gu then asks why Gu feels that he's changed. Gu explains that he was saved by his master, who took him to the Celestial Realms. Gu points out that Gu's parents were already killed when Gu found him, and that Gu doesn't want Gu to hate his master. Gu assures Gu that his master is a good disciple. Gu is uneasy, but Gu assures him that they always want his jerky.
