The narrator tells the audience that he's going to get a divorce from Guppy and that he can get a lot of money from it. He also tells us that Guppy broke up with Jingsheng because he was jealous of him. The narrator then tells us about how Guppy came to see Guppy's sister. Guppy is jealous of his sister because she's in love with another man. He's also jealous of Guppy because he wants to be his sister's lover. He tells Guppy that if she doesn't want him to be her sister, then he can be her lover. The two of them talk about money, and Guppy says that if Guppy wants to marry her, then she can have him as her lover as long as she wants him to have her blood in his veins. He says that he will make Guppy uncomfortable, and that she'll be embarrassed if he keeps pestering her like this. He goes on to say that he is already married, and he won't be surprised if she tries to get him to talk to her like that. He wants to know how he hurt his hand, and how he can take off the infected part of his hand if he wants it to stay infected. He asks Guppy to come in and tell him what happened.
