The scene opens with a flashback to the beginning of the novel, in which the narrator explains that he was mistaken about the seriousness of his crush's illness. He is now convinced that he has been wrong about the severity of his illness and that he must control his emotions in order to be successful in his relationship with the young woman. He tells her that he wants to know more about her, not just about what she likes to eat or watch, but about everything about her. He says that he had been jealous of her relationship with Qu ren and Ge ren because they were involved in her past, but now that he knows her better, he will not be jealous of either of them. He plans to become the one to know her best in the future, and he and her will be happy together in the present.
